Apple will stop supplying earplugs and a plug with new iPhones. The company says it wants to limit the impact on the environment.
Not everyone will be able to understand the lack of the charger in particular. With the top devices of competitors such as Samsung and OnePlus, they are included.
Plug costs 25 euros
The company announced four versions of the new phone. The iPhones have been redesigned. In recent years, the edges of the devices have had a curve, which has been replaced by a straight edge.
The box now includes a lightning to usb-c cable. In order to be able to use that new cable, someone will also have to buy a new plug. Apple charges 25 euros for that.
Critics will see Apple’s choice as a way to make even more money from its consumers. The company states that there are 700 million lightning earbuds in circulation worldwide and two billion chargers, thus suggesting that many customers already have one in the drawer and can reuse it.
Limit CO2 emissions
Apple also says that the omission of the two accessories makes for a smaller iPhone box, which means that 70 percent more boxes can be transported at the same time. Apple expects that the measures together will reduce CO2 emissions by 2 million tons annually.
