Kiki Bertens lost one place in the world ranking on Monday. The Netherlands’ best tennis player drops from eighth to ninth in the global ranking.
The decrease is due to the elimination of Bertens from Roland Garros, where she stranded in the fourth round more than a week ago by losing to qualifier Martina Trevisan.
Bertens is passed on the world ranking by Petra Kvitová, who reached the semi-finals on the clay in Paris and therefore rises from eleventh to eighth place.
Bertens has been among the top ten in the world since October 2018. Her best position is fourth place, which she held between May and July last year.
The top three of the WTA ranking remains unchanged with Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka. The surprising Roland Garros winner Iga Swiatek rises no less than 37 places and is now number seventeen.
Few shifts took place among the men in the absolute top. Diego Schwartzman, semi-finalist in Paris, did rise from fourteenth to eighth place. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem still make up the top three and Tallon Griekspoor is the best Dutchman in 144th.
