To travel
“I have always loved traveling. I flew to London and Manchester with my first husband sixty years ago. After that, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy camped with the children and we went to Ibiza and Gran Canaria several times. ”
Most beautiful trip
“The Grand Canyon near Bryce Canyon, 15 years ago. I said to my husband: “Could it be any better?” We traveled all over the area in a month. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! ”
This was drama
“We have been conned in Sri Lanka. We wanted to go to Galle by train. In the train a ‘neat’ lad spoke to us: Galle was closed due to an important visit. We could use a kind of rickshaw. We enter the rickshaw, an hour and a half to a tea plantation. After an hour and a half we no longer knew how to sit. When we later went into town, we heard in a restaurant that there were no high visitors at all and the city was not closed at all. And a trip by boat from Guadeloupe to St. Lucia. Been terribly seasick for two hours. Back with a plane was fun, so it wasn’t that much of a drama. ”
Farthest journey
“Six weeks in Australia. With a camper from Cairns Fraser Island to Brisbane and Melbourne and back again via the south coast. Beautiful campsites, beautiful cities, friendly people and astonishingly clean. ”
Longest delay
Canary Islands with the kids still, 4 hours long. Oh yes, you agree. ”
Lost suitcases
“My daughter was getting married in Suriname and on the way back it turned out that the luggage, full of photos and gifts, had been left behind. After four days they were still brought, we received compensation from then, it is 30 years ago, one hundred guilders per suitcase. ”
Never forget again
“I was asked to marry me at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. We were with other travel companions, the bus was happily waiting for us. In the evening we had a nice party in the hotel. Awesome.”
