Due to the second lockdown, many cultural institutions and makers have suffered even more setbacks. To absorb the blows in Amsterdam, the board of b. and W. of the city with a recovery plan. Part of the plan is that around 21.4 million euros would become available for the cultural sector in Amsterdam at the beginning of 2021. Because many more resources are needed, this would be the first step to keep institutions afloat. Because of the pandemic, around 2.5 billion would have been lost in the Amsterdam cultural sector in 2020 and 2021.
Maintaining jobs in the cultural sector and encouraging cultural visits are the pillars of the recovery plan. The lack of perspective is considered worrying because of the great economic and social value of art and culture for the city.
The losses in the cultural sector are currently being mapped out in order to be able to come up with a proposal in January. Institutions that were previously left out for support could possibly be addressed now.
