Every week we gauge the opinion of readers via telegraaf.nl/lifestyle. This time: are you going for a normal bicycle or e-bike?
An overwhelming majority of you are devoted to the e-bike. This is evident from the many responses to our call.
Sonja Kerssens, for example, ordered one after riding her mother’s e-bike. “It was a shock because of the prices. But yes, it is all about electric cycling! I haven’t got it in yet. Delivery times are insanely long. ”
Joannes van Stein was 69 years old when he bought an e-bike. “I have cycled a lot all my life. Now that I am a bit older, I enjoy the support bike a lot. Actually, you always have a tailwind. Good cycling posture is, however, important. ”
Yet readers are also skeptical. “I am 71 years old and cycle 50 kilometers on a racing bike every day. You build up less fitness on an e-bike, while that is especially important now, ”says GJ Kroesbergen.
Other readers are concerned about their safety. “You are startled by a silent device. It is almost always the elderly who rush past without a helmet. Their reaction speed leaves something to be desired; I should know as a 67-year-old ”, writes Paul Schaeffer. Safety is of course paramount. Enjoy your trips on the (electric) bike!
Because my intervertebral discs are very bad, I have not been able to cycle for more than 25 years. Now I have an e-bike and can ride 45 km without any problems. The e-bike is a godsend for me!
After many years of riding a regular bicycle and racing bike, I am happy to be able to ride an e-bike at the age of 73. I still try to get about 50 km every day. I am very pleased with it.
I am very satisfied with the range of about 75 km with the middle support. An e-bike is more expensive than a regular bicycle, but I cycle a lot more now. The car then stops. I only ride it at greater distances. Per year is 8000 kilometers on the bike.
In my opinion, the e-bike is being misused as a means of transport. The older generation often cannot control the bicycle and it makes the youth lazy. Personally, I want to keep riding a regular bike with and or without gears for as long as possible.
I am 81 years old and used to ride a normal bicycle until two years ago. Since my wife and I make many long trips and often go on holiday by bike, we bought an e-bike two years ago. Top! Mainly with the eco support, then you don’t go too fast and you still cycle!
