Wandelnet has been organizing the national Walk to Work Day since 2015. The challenge is to walk to work on that day. But now that we still work from home as much as possible due to corona and the need to walk has only increased, according to Wandelnet, the organization especially calls for a nice trip during work.
Knowings with colleagues
Wandelnet has launched a number of so-called weeting routes on Wandel during your Work Day; routes that are ideal for a meeting with colleagues of fifteen to ninety minutes. According to Wandelnet, knowings help to get (even) more out of a meeting.
On weeting.nl you can see which knowings are in your area.
Creative
Did you know that you absorb information better if you move while you listen? This works as follows: by walking, you stimulate cooperation between the left hemisphere, which stands for the analytical capacity, and the intuitive and creative right hemisphere.
In addition, while walking, the body produces the hormones endorphins and serotonin, which ensure a happy and relaxed feeling. The stress hormone cortisol decreases and negative feelings decrease.
Health benefits
Great if you take a walk today (with colleagues), but it is even better to walk every day or a few times a week. Many studies show that you get many health benefits from that daily walk.
By walking daily and keeping your body moving, you strengthen your muscles and bones. In addition, it lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.
And you may have noticed it before, but when you walk when you walk, your bowels are activated. Walking stimulates the metabolism.
So go, put on those (walking) shoes and go!
