Bert Konterman will leave PEC Zwolle after this season. The trainer had an offer to continue as assistant to Art Langeler, but chooses to resume his role as youth trainer at the KNVB.
“I really like the position of head coach at PEC Zwolle. The club, staff, employees and supporters have offered me a very nice experience. It makes me realize once more that I would like to stand on my own two feet and that I am currently not I aspire to the position of assistant trainer “, Konterman said on Thursday on the PEC site.
“I think the KNVB’s offer to become the trainer of the Orange under 19 is a perfect fit for me. This season it will be the highest youth team in the football association and it offers me a wonderful challenge to work with the greatest talents in the country.”
Fifty-year-old Konterman was appointed at PEC at the end of February until the end of the season, where he succeeded the fired John Stegeman. A month ago, the Zwolle club announced that Langeler will be in front of the group from next season.
Konterman has a long history in Zwolle. The former player of Feyenoord and Glasgow Rangers, among others, made his debut as a professional and was also head of youth academy and technical manager at PEC.
In recent years, Konterman has already worked as a youth association coach at the KNVB. He had, among others, the Netherlands under 20 and under 18 under his wing. Since last year, he was only assistant coach of the Orange under 16.
