Many Dutch people spend the winter in Southern Europe. In Spain, for example, no fewer than 78,551 Dutch citizens were registered in 2019. The actual number is even greater because not everyone registers. We wondered whether our readers will travel to Spain (and other countries) this winter, despite corona.
Looking at the reactions, it seems that many of you do this, including Cees Verhoef. “We have been hibernating in the Algarve for four years now, where we stay as pensioners at an affordable price. We hope to go here often. ”
Els Herkens is also back in Spain. “After deliberation we left for our apartment. In Spain everyone wears a face mask. People keep their distance. I am glad that we are here, it didn’t seem like anything in the Netherlands. ”
Yet some of you stay here because travel insurance does not cover countries with an orange or red code, according to the response Mr Jacobs. “Very unfortunate because we felt safe in Spain, but if we go now, our travel insurance will not cover the consequences of a corona infection.”
Carl of Cleves: “We planned to spend the winter in Spain. We will wait a while before booking to see how the situation develops there. If possible, we will go in January and February. The climate is reason for us to go. ”
Elly Delvaen: “As soon as I get the chance I like to visit my daughter on a small island near Dubrovnik. There I feel much safer than in the Netherlands where mouth masks are still not mandatory. Besides this, I am used to the good weather, sunny days and life outside. ”
Jan and Ria Meijer: “At the moment my wife and I are already at our winter address in Portugal. We rent a beautiful detached house from the 1950s in the Algarve. Due to the space and the rules adhered to, the corona virus can be well controlled. Now around 25 degrees and a good place to stay. ”
Willem and Selma Tates: “Our trip to Tenerife in early 2021 has been booked! We have a beautiful apartment with swimming pool. Relax on our terrace or by the pool. Walk along the beach or take a dip in the sea. Make various tours and have a nice lunch along the coast. And above all enjoy culture and the sun. ”
